LA Premiere (10/19) | Frat Earthers (2025)
Directed by Isaac Carlen, Exec. Producer Klario Zavala
In a cinematic landscape overflowing with reboots and rehashes, Frat Earthers soars into the realm of absurdist delight. Directed by Massachusetts native, Isaac Carlen (Star Wars: Ahsoka, Splinter, Workaholics), this riotous satire of conspiracy culture lands somewhere between Revenge of the Nerds and Parks and Recreation, if either had more tinfoil hats and less regard for plausibility.
The story follows Finn (Gavin Mulcahy), a student turned relentless “truth detective,” who becomes obsessed with determining the shape of the earth. When he recruits an ensemble cast of lovable weirdos, their mission spirals out of control and inadvertently uncovers something real... or at least real-adjacent. With its whip-smart script and slapstick pacing, Frat Earthers skewers everything from Reddit rabbit holes to algorithm-induced paranoia. It also manages to retain a surprising amount of heart, largely thanks to Mulcahy’s sincere performance and a script that treats its eccentrics with affection rather than disdain.
Behind the laughter, the film carries a bittersweet note. Executive producer Klario Zavala, a longtime friend of Carlen, passed away mid-production at age 33. Known for backing offbeat projects when few others would, Zavala championed Frat Earthers from its earliest drafts, reportedly telling Carlen, “This is the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard, lets make it.” Following Zavala’s passing, the production was turned into a short film. “Zavala gave this movie its wings,” said Carlen. “It’s ridiculous, yes, but it’s also his spirit: defiant, weird, and totally unfiltered.” Zavala is honored with blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameos.
The film stars Gavin Mulcahy, Steph LeHane and Isaac Carlen. Guest starring former Dr. Dre protege, Bishop Lamont. Shot primarily in Massachusetts with community support from Tom’s Pizza, United Parish of Auburndale and Tifereth Israel of New Bedford.
Following a sold out debut in Boston, Frat Earthers will have it's west coast premiere at the historic Raymond Theater in Los Angeles, Oct. 19th at 4pm. The film is suitable for all ages and tickets can be purchased at theaters or online at www.fratearthers.com
